Joint Legislative Forum - February 26, 2021

 

 

Present at meeting:

Liana Caesar, Representative, District 66

School Committee: Gina Bae, Megan Douglas, Amanda Regino Basse, and Patrick McCrann

School Administration: Michael Messore, Paula Dillon, and Douglas Fiore

Town Council: Robert Humm, Jacob Brier, Annelise Conway, and Carl Kustell (arrived late) Town Administration: Jim Cunha, Kathleen Raposa

Mr Humm called the Town Council meeting to order and Ms. Bae called the School Committee meeting to order at 8:02 AM.

 

The Town Manager and Town Council reviewed their concerns including an update on the vaccination roll out locally, the bike path bridge construction, and general funding concerns.

 

The School Administration and School Committee reviewed their concerns regarding unfunded mandates, using the Right to Read Act as an example, concerns about H5026 regarding early retirement for teachers without a clear financial study, and general encouragement to consider the best way to help children after this strange year, with encouragement for the educators to continue to be the managers for educations with municipal governments focusing on the non- educational ways to support children in the community.

 

Mr. Humm asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting which passed with all Town Council members voting in the affirmative.

 

At 8:57 AM, Ms. Bae asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Dr. Douglas moved and Mr. McCrann seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0 with all present members voting in the affirmative.
