Notice of Special Meeting

JULY 16, 2020

A Special meeting of the City Council was called held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 via ZOOM.

The meeting was called to order at 9:10 P.M. by the Council Vice-President.

Roll call showed the following members present: Council Members Stycos, Hopkins, Vargas, Paplauskas, Vice-President Favicchio and Council President Farina (appeared at 9:12 p.m.) -6.

Absent: Councilmembers Donegan and Brady -2.

Also Present: John Psilopoulos, Deputy Director of Administration; Christopher Rawson, City Solicitor; Evan Kirshenbaum, City Council Legal Counsel.

RESOLUTION PROPOSING AMENDMENT TO SEC. 6.21 OF THE CRANSTON HOME RULE CHARTER AND DIRECTING THE SECRETARY OF STATE TO PLACE ON THE BALLOT THE FOLLOWING AS A REFERENDUM QUESTION (Property Tax Levy Cap)

On motion by Council President Farina, seconded by Councilmember Paplauskas, it was voted to adopt the above Resolution.

Under Discussion:

Steve Fria, Chair of Charter Review Commission, appeared to speak and stated that this amendment is almost identical to What the City Council already approved. The only change the clarification for the voters to understand it clearer that, per State Law, above 3% requires super majority.

Roll call was taken on motion to adopt the above Resolution and motion passed on a vote of 6-0. The following being recorded as voting “aye”: Councilmembers Stycos, Hopkins, Vargas, Paplauskas, Council Vice-President Favicchio and Council President Farina -6.

The meeting adjourned at 9:15 P.M.
