CRANSTON CITY COUNCIL

Notice of Special Meeting

 

SEPTEMBER 27, 2021

 

 

 

 

            A Special meeting of the City Council was called held on Monday, September 27, 2021 in the Council Chambers, 869 Park Ave., Cranston, Rhode Island.

 

 

            The meeting was called to order at 6:35 P.M. by the Council President.

        

Roll call showed the following members present:  Councilwoman Marino, Councilman Ferri, Councilwomen Renzulli, Vargas, Germain, Councilmen Donegan, Reilly and Council President Paplauskas -8.

 

            Also Present:  John Verdecchia, Assistant City Solicitor; Robert Strom, Director of Finance; Steven Angell, City Council Legal Counsel.

 

·         Appointment of Richard D. Campopiano as Ward 4 Council member filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Council Member Edward Brady

 

On motion by Councilman Ferri, seconded by Councilman Donegan, it was voted to appoint Richard D. Campopiano to fill the balance of the term of former Councilman Brady for Ward 4 Councilman.  Motion passed on a vote of 8-0.  The following being recorded as voting “aye”:  Councilwoman Marino, Councilman Ferri, Councilwomen Renzulli, Vargas, Germain, Councilmen Donegan, Reilly and Council President Paplauskas -8.

 

            Acting City Clerk administered Oath of Office to Councilman Campopiano.

 

·         Nominations for the Office of Council Vice-President filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Vice-President Edward Brady.

Councilwoman Marino nominated Councilman Ferri as Council Vice-President.  Councilwoman Vargas seconded the nomination.

 

            Councilman Reilly nominated Councilwoman Renzulli as Council Vice-President.  Council President Paplauskas stated that a second is not required for nominations in this fashion per Roberts Rules. 

 

            No other nominations were made.

 

            Council President Paplauskas stated that because there are two names, when roll call is taken, the Council Member will state the name of who they would like to vote for Council Vice-President.

 

Council President Paplauskas asked for roll call to be taken.

 

Councilwoman Marino voted for Councilman Ferri, Councilman Ferri voted for Councilman Ferri, Councilwoman Renzulli voted for Councilwoman Renzulli, Councilwoman Lammas voted for Councilman Ferri, Councilwoman Germain voted for Councilman Ferri, Councilman Donegan voted for Councilman Ferri, Councilman Reilly voted for Councilwoman Renzulli, Councilman Campopiano voted for Councilman Ferri and Council President Paplauskas voted for Councilman Ferri. 

 

Councilman Ferri was elected Council Vice-President.
