C.  Update from the School Committee Video

 

Dennis Collins, 5 Wedgewood Drive reported on the following item:

·         Construction at Cumberland Hill School is on schedule and on budget; tours of the renovated facilities can be scheduled with Cindy Chabot of the Superintendent’s office.

·         Construction phase one for Garvin/Ashton (new addition) and Community (new cafeteria) are out to bid.

·         Garvin held informational session with parents to discuss next year’s transition

·         CHS graduation is Friday, June 10, 2022

MOTION BY COUNCILOR METIVIER, SECONDED BY COUNCILOR MAGILL, AND IT IS UNANIMOUSLY VOTED TO APPROVE.  VOTE 6/0.

 

      PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION Video

      1.  Grainne Duddy, completing Cheryl Gray’s term to expire December 31, 2022 

 

Parks & Recreation Commission chair Alan Neville spoke of his support for this appointment to the commission.

Ms. Duddy was present via Zoom and expressed her enthusiasm to work with the Commission.

MOTION BY COUNCILOR SCHMITT, SECONDED BY COUNCILOR SHAW, AND IT IS UNANIMOUSLY VOTED TO TABLE TO JUNE 1, 2022.  VOTE 6/0.

 

2.  R-22-37A resolution authorizing and empowering Mayor Jeffrey J. Mutter to enter into an agreement for American Rescue Plan Act Services with HCH Enterprises in an amount not to exceed twenty thousand two-hundred and fifty dollars ($20,250) Video

 

Mayor Mutter provided an overview of the resolution.

Robert Zarnetske from HCH Enterprises was present via Zoom to speak to the project and answered questions from the Council.

 

MOTION BY COUNCILOR SHAW, SECONDED BY COUNCILOR MAGILL, AND IT IS UNANIMOUSLY VOTED TO APPROVE.  VOTE 6/0.

 

3.  R-22-38A resolution directing the Director of the Department of Public Works to Request a Traffic Study and  Signalization at Saint Joseph’s Church at 1303 Mendon Road (Co-Sponsored by Councilor President and Councilor Magill) Video

 

Both President Kinch and Councilor Magill commented on the history of the resolution.

 

MOTION BY COUNCILOR MAGILL, SECONDED BY COUNCILOR SHAW, AND IT IS UNANIMOUSLY VOTED TO APPROVE.  VOTE 6/0.

 

4.  R-22-39A resolution in support of Rhode Island House Bill H8066 relating to a Moratorium on the Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax (Co-Sponsored by Council President and Councilor Metivier) Video

 

Inflation, product shortages and the price of gas were referenced by President Kinch.

 

MOTION BY COUNCILOR SCHMITT, SECONDED BY COUNCILOR METIVIER, AND IT IS UNANIMOUSLY VOTED TO APPROVE.  VOTE 6/0.

 

C.  ORDINANCES – PRESENTATION & PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE Video

1.  #22-14An ordinance establishing the operating budget for the Town of Cumberland’s General Fund for fiscal year 2022-2023

 

2.  #22-15An ordinance establishing the operating budget for the Town of Cumberland’s Water Department for fiscal year 2022-2023

 

3.  #22-16 An ordinance establishing the operating budget for the Town of Cumberland’s Sewer Department for fiscal year 2022-2023
