SCHOOL COMMITTEE

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25, 2023, at 6:30 P.M.

CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting was called to order at 6:37pm.

 

In person: President Kinch, Councilors Shaw, Magill, Metivier, Schmitt and Beaulieu.

Absent: Councilor Bradley

 

School Committee Chair Karen Freedman called the School Committee meeting to order at 6:38pm.

 

In person: School Committee Chair Karen Freedman, members Denis Collins, Mark Fiorillo and Amy Vogel; Superintendent Philip Thornton; District Business Manager Alexander Prignano

 

DISCUSSION:

a.  Pre-Budget consultations and three-year forecasting with the School Committee pursuant to the requirements of RIGL 16-2-21 through 16-2-21.3

 

Superintendent Thornton began with projections; they anticipate at least a $1,700,000.00 increase in State Aid. Cumberland will have its highest enrollment this year, which increases State Aid.

 

Mr. Prignano gave an overview of handouts he had passed out illustrating FY20 through FY22 results and fund balances, and FY2020-FY2026 budget actuals and projections. He and Dr. Thornton answered questions from the Council and School Committee.

 

Mayor Mutter spoke to his own detailed presentation on fund balances, tax levy, fund balances and town projections for FY2020-2026, and responded to questions.
