1.      Erin Bielecki – Silver Spring Elementary safety and removal of a crossing guard concern.  Council President Rodericks stated that the Council does not hire or assign crossing guards within the City.  He read a report from Chief of Police Rapoza stating that the survey determined that a crossing guard is not necessary at this time and has been moved to Pawtucket Avenue where there is more of a need. Council President stated he will continue to monitor the situation.

2.      Renee Ignacio – No Silver Spring Crossing Guard is a safety hazard.  Cars drive through the street ignoring the “do Not Enter” sign. Mr. Fogarty, principal of the school, is on the scene crossing students. Speeding down the street, cars parked on the road blocking views and driving the wrong way down the street is also a concern.

Councilwoman Sousa stated that residents reached out to her inquiring on how to be a crossing guard and if there are openings. Residents stated that they were told they were not taking applications or filling positions at this time.

Mayor DaSilva stated he will investigate the Silver Spring crossing guard issue and will speak to Chief Rapoza to facilitate if there is someone to fill that position. Mentioned it is a lengthy process as only one person in DOT certifies crossing guards.
