The following items of business, having been filed with the Town Clerk under the Rules of the Council, will come before the Council at a special meeting to be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 5:30 P.M. at the Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road, Middletown, Rhode Island. Dear Ms. Marshall:

           

         Pursuant to the provisions of Article II, Section 203 of the Town Charter and in accordance with Sections 42-46-2., 42-46-4., 42-46-5., and 42-46-6., RIGL, I hereby call a Special Meeting of the Town Council to formally consider, discuss and act upon the following items of business. All items on this agenda, may be considered, discussed and voted upon.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG

 

1. To discuss enabling legislation related to Middletown/Newport Regionalized School District and matters related thereto.

 

2. Resolution of the Council, re:  MEMORIALIZING THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ENACT LEGISLATION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF NEWPORT AND THE TOWN OF MIDDLETOWN TO ESTABLISH A REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT ‎AND PROVIDING FOR STATE AID FOR SCHOOL HOUSING COSTS ‎OF AT LEAST 80% OF DEBT SERVICE FOR EXPENDITURES ELIGIBLE FOR STATE AID.

 

3. To discuss enabling legislation for school bonds in a principal amount not to exceed $235,000,000.

 

4. Resolution of the Council, re: MEMORIALIZING THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ENACT LEGISLATION AUTHORIZING THE TOWN OF MIDDLETOWN TO ISSUE NOT TO EXCEED $235,000,000 GENERAL ‎OBLIGATION BONDS, NOTES AND OTHER EVIDENCES OF INDEBTEDNESS TO ‎FINANCE THE  CONSTRUCTION, RENOVATION, IMPROVEMENT, ALTERATION, ‎REPAIR, LANDSCAPING, FURNISHING AND EQUIPPING OF NEW ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS AND SCHOOL ‎FACILITIES THROUGHOUT THE TOWN, AND ALL ATTENDANT EXPENSES ‎INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ENGINEERING AND ARCHITECTURAL ‎COSTS, PROVIDED THAT THE AUTHORIZATION SHALL BE REDUCED BY THE ‎AMOUNT OF CERTAIN GRANTS RECEIVED FROM STATE BOND PROCEEDS, FROM ‎THE RHODE ISLAND DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OR FROM THE RHODE ISLAND ‎SCHOOL BUILDING AUTHORITY.
