PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG
1. Resolution of the Council, re: Purchase of certain parcels of real property located at 361 & 393 East Main Road and receipt of a Site Acquisition Program grant and a Land Bank loan from the Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corporation in connection therewith.
On motion of Vice President Welch, duly seconded, to pass said resolution.
Town Solicitor Peter B. Regan addressed the Council reviewing the resolution above.
Mr. Regan noted it is necessary to pass the resolution to close on the property on April 18, 2023.
Councillor Santos inquired about the exact location of the property.
Town Solicitor Peter Regan, responding to Councillor Santos, explained that the property is not the property directly across from Town Hall, it is the next property over. Mr. Regan noted the Town will purchase the parcel of land with the brick house on the hill and the parcel next to it with an outbuilding on it.
Council President Rodrigues noted that the discussion to purchase this property has been going on for approximately ten months, DEM has certified the land as clean, and the property will be purchased for affordable housing. Mr. Rodrigues explained this is a great step in the right direction for affordable housing in the Town.
Councillor Turano thanked the Town Council and Town Staff for all the work they have done to secure the property, noting this is exciting and the Town is heading in the right direction.
A vote was taken.
On motion of Vice President Welch, duly seconded, it was voted unanimously to pass said resolution.
On motion of Vice President Welch, duly seconded, it was voted unanimously to adjourn said meeting at 5:36 p.m.
