MINUTES

The Town of New Shoreham Historic District Commission convened for a meeting at 6:00 P.M. at Town Hall on February 1, 2023. Present: Martha Ball, Mark Vaillancourt, Mike Ballard, Bill Koch, and Elizabeth Moss. Absent: Arlene Tunney and Kay McManus.

A call to order was made at 6:00 by acting chairperson Martha Ball

Preliminary:

1. TMG BI Realty LLC. Plat 6, Lot 157. Fire #212 Water Street. Application for renovations at Finn’s Seafood Restaurant.

TMG BI Realty LLC was granted Administrative Approval for proposed windows. Applicant withdraw other proposed renovations.

2. Best Location LLC. Plat 6 Lot 3-2. Fire #33 Ocean Ave. Application by Poor People’s Pub to replace current metal pergola with wooden pergola.

Ross Audino the owner of Poor People’s Pub presented the application to installed new cedar pergolas. A brief discussion ensued and the board unanimously agreed the old pergolas are in need of replacement.

Mark Vaillancourt made a motion to replace metal pergolas with cedar pergolas on the patio at Poor People’s Pub. The approved pergolas are 20 x 12 feet with 6 x 6 posts secured by cement footings. Mr. Koch seconded the motion and the motion carried 5-0.

Ayes 5 (Martha Ball, Michael Ballard, Mark Vaillancourt, Bill Koch, Elizabeth Moss) Nays 0

Findings of fact:

· The property is in the Historic District

· The pergolas will be constructed of cedar wood.

· The pergolas will be plumb and level.

· The awning will be removed during the off season.

· The application is complete.

3. Best Location Block Island II LLC. Plat 5 Lot 10. Fire #126 Corn Neck Road. Application by Tigerfish to construct a pergola.

The owner of Tigerfish Restaurant presented an application to install two cedar pergolas on the front patio to provide shade for customers. The proposed pergolas are a prefab kit, constructed of cedar, and are 20 x 12 x 7 and 5/8^th. The 6 x 6 posts will be secured by cement footings.

Mr. Koch made a motion to approval application to change the pergola color to white to match existing trim on the building. Ms. Ball seconded the motion and the motion carried 3-2.

Ayes 3 (Martha Ball, Mark Vaillancourt, Bill Koch) Nays 2 (Michael Ballard and Elizabeth Moss)

4. Cat Rock Cove. Plat 7 Lot 19. Fire #30. Application by Peter Mott to construct a maintenance building. Applicant not present.

5. Sandy Point Co. LLC. Plat 6 Lot #35. Application to repair clapboard on dormers, replace decking and patio, replace fence, and replace awning fabric.

Mr. Vaillancourt made a motion to approve the application. Mr. Koch seconded, and the motion passed 5-0.

New Business:

1. Election of Officers:

Mr. Koch made a motion to nominate Arlene Tunney for chairperson and Martha Ball for vice chairperson. Mr. Ballard seconded, and the motion carried 5-0

2. Approval of Minutes from October and November 2022. Minutes approved

3. Adjournment: Ms. Ball made a motion to adjourn at 7:05 PM
