MINUTES

 

The Town of New Shoreham Historic District Commission convened for a meeting at 6:00 PM at the Town Hall on June 26, 2023. Present: Arlene Tunney (Chair) Martha Ball (Vice Chair), Mark Vaillancourt, Elizabeth Moss, and Kay McManus.  Absent: Mike Ballard and Bill Koch.

 

A call to order was made at 6:00 PM by chairperson Arlene Tunney.

 

Preliminary:   

 

1.      Cronin Residence.  Plat 8, Lot 255. Fire# 363.  High Street. Revised Application for renovations and new construction on an existing single-family dwelling.

 

Doug Gilpin, architect, and Jim Cronin, owner, were present.  Mr. Gilpin presented the proposed changes to the previously approved application. 

 

·         Cedar weatherboarding within the infill space between the top of the first-floor porches and the underside of the roof cornice. 

·         16’ white cedar shingles on the sidewalls of the dormers

·         Recessing the second-floor deck

·         Change the current non-historic window on the east side to a single awning window

 

Ms. Tunney stated changes are a big improvement over previous design.

Ms. Moss stated the changes bring the overall design further away from the original design.

 

Mr. Vaillancourt made a motion to approve the changes as presented.  Ms. Moss seconded the motion and the motion carried 5-0

 

Ayes 5 (Tunney, Ball, Vaillancourt, McManus, Moss) Nays 0.

 

2.      Kenney, Robert C.  Plat 6, Lot 35.  Fire# 454.  Ocean Ave. Application by Robert Kenney to renovate the existing building, remove the canopy, roof structure, and add a second floor with a gable roof.

 

Doug Gilpin, architect, and Robert Kenney, owner, were present.  Mr. Gilpin presented the proposed changes to the previously approved application.  The changes reflect the interior design. 

 

Remove three (3) double-hung windows on the right (north) side of the building and replace with 1 Anderson 400 series window and a kitchen access door measuring 6’-8” by 3’. 

Install a 11 foot high fence on street side of the proposed walk-in cooler.  The top of the fence will be lattice, like the fence at Kimberly’s Restaurant. 

 

Ms. Moss made a motion to approve the application as presented.  Mr. Vaillancourt seconded and the motion carried 5-0.

Ayes 5 (Tunney, Ball, Vaillancourt, McManus, Moss) Nays 0.

 

3.      Calvez LLC.  Plat 6, Lot 119.  Fire# 62.  Dodge Street.  Application by the Darius Inn for material change from previously approved windows in the gable ends.

 

Tabled until more information is available. 

 

Approval: of Minutes from May and June 3, 2023.  Review all minutes from 2023.  Minutes from June 3, 2023, were approved with one change from Ms. Moss.

 

Adjournment: Ms. Tunney made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:50 PM
