Order 15569 - NE Voice & Data: Appl. to Operate as a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier

 

STATE OF RHODE ISLAND AND PROVIDENCE PLANTATIONS

PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION

ORDER

WHEREAS, On July 12, 1996, the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission ("Commission") adopted guidelines and entry requirements for Competitive Local Exchange Carrier ("CLEC") seeking authorization to provide local exchange service in Rhode Island  [1 Commission Report and Order No. 15040 in Docket No. 2411.]; and

WHEREAS, On February 26, 1998, New England Voice and Data, LLC ("Company") filed with the Commission an application seeking authority to operate as a non-facility CLEC in Rhode Island; and

WHEREAS, On March 16, 1998, after examination, the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers ("Division") filed a memorandum indicating that the Company complied with the filing requirements necessary to obtain authorization to operate as a CLEC, and therefore, endorsed the application; and

WHEREAS, The Commission is of the opinion that the application is proper, reasonable and in the interest of the ratepayers, and hereby grant the Company authorization to operate as a CLEC;

Accordingly, it is

(15569) ORDERED:

1) That New England Voice and Data, LLC is hereby granted authorization to operate as a non-facility Competitive Local Exchange Carrier in Rhode Island.

2) That the Company's tariffs are hereby approved effective April 1, 1998.

3) That the Company shall send registered notification to the Commission and Division when actual operation commences in Rhode Island.

EFFECTIVE AT PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND ON APRIL 1, 1998, PURSUANT TO AN OPEN MEETING DECISION.
