Order 15606 - Jamestown & Newport Ferry: Appl. to Change Rate Schedule

 

STATE OF RHODE ISLAND AND PROVIDENCE PLANTATIONS

PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION

ORDER

WHEREAS, On April 27, 1998, the Jamestown & Newport Ferry Company, One East Ferry Wharf, Jamestown, Rhode Island filed an application with the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission ("Commission") seeking a rate increase and modification to its operating schedule. The proposed rates and operating schedule is attached to this Order as Appendices 1 and 2, respectively. These Appendices are incorporated by reference.

WHEREAS, Upon receipt, the Commission forwarded a copy of the filing to the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers ("Division") for review and comment.

WHEREAS, The Division subsequently filed a memorandum with the Commission on May 6, 1998, indicating that it had reviewed the proposed rate and schedule changes and found them to be reasonable.

WHEREAS, The Commission has considered the instant application and also finds the proposed rate increase and schedule modification reasonable.

WHEREAS, The Commission also finds that a comprehensive rate proceeding is not required in this matter. The Commission will therefore exercise its option under Rhode Island General Laws, Section 39-3-12 and waive further investigation and public hearings. We predicate this decision on the relatively small size of this public utility, the nominal rate and schedule changes involved, and the fact that the services provided by this ferry company do not constitute "lifeline" ferry services to an isolated ratepayer population.

Now, therefore, it is

1. That the April 27, 1998 application filing from Jamestown & Newport Ferry Company, One East Ferry Wharf, Jamestown, Rhode Island, seeking a rate increase and schedule change, is hereby approved.
