STATE OF RHODE ISLAND AND PROVIDENCE PLANTATIONS

PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION

 

IN RE:             TARIFF FILING MADE BY

ISLAND HI-SPEED FERRY, LLC

 

DOCKET NO. 2802

 

WHEREAS: On September 18, 1998, the Island Hi-Speed Ferry, LLC (the "Company"), a public utility subject to the provisions of Title 39 of the General Laws, as amended, filed with the Public Utilities Commission ("Commission") proposed new passenger rates and charges and ferry service schedule between Port of Galilee, Narragansett to New Harbor, Block Island  [1 On August 25, 1998, the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers granted to the Company authority to operate as a water carrier and that such authority is conditioned upon Commission's approval of the Company's rates and charges. Order No. 15652.]; and

 

WHEREAS: The proposed rates and charges included: Adult one-way $14,00, Adult round-trip $26.00, Child one-way $8.00, Child round-trip $12.00 and a commuter rate of $18.00 [2 On October 13, 1998, the Company withdrew the proposed commuter rate.]; and

 

WHEREAS: The Commission is of the opinion that the public's interest requires that an investigation be made of the proposal; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS

 

(15733) ORDERED:

 

That the Public Utilities Commission on its motion and pursuant to the provisions of Section 39-3-11 of the General Laws, as amended, hereby suspends the effective date of the above filing for a period of six (6) months beyond October 18, 1998.

 

EFFECTIVE AT PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND ON OCTOBER 6, 1998, PURSUANT TO OPEN MEETING DECISION. WRITTEN ORDER ISSED ON DECEMBER 16, 1998.
