A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners was held Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 6:51 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.

 

Present – President Mercer, Councilors Araujo, Coderre, Moran, Moreno, Rubio, Stachowiak and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – Councilor Gregor.

 

Chairperson Mercer presided.

 

1.      The reading of the records of December 18, 2024 was dispensed with and the records were APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk,

 

COUNCILOR GREGOR ARRIVED AT 6:53 P.M.

 

 

2.      A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE FOLLOWING APPLICATION FOR A LICENSE, WHICH WAS ADVERTISED FOR A HEARING AT THIS TIME, WAS TAKEN UP:

 

CLASS B (VICTUALLER) Transfer with outdoor seating –

 

La Rumba (La Rumba Restaurant and Lounge Inc.) 908 Main Street, LIC#LQB-24-79 (ent) AMUSEMENT-1 POOL TABLE-1

 (Transfer from Millennium Restaurant & Lounge Inc.)

 

Speaking was Williams Penafiel, 123 Wesleyan Avenue, Providence, RI, applicant.

 

Mr. Penafiel will run the business about the same as before.

 

They will have Guatemalan food.

 

He worked in restaurants before, but has not run one.  He worked as a cook.

 

Mr. Penafiel and his wife and one other employee will be working there.

 

They are taking alcohol server certification classes.

 

He has twenty parking spaces.

 

He will have a DJ.

 

The hours will be from 3:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., 6 days a week, closed on Tuesdays.

 

There were no other speakers. The hearing was closed.

Upon motion made by Councilor Gregor, seconded by Councilor Moreno, the following petition for license was APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote:

3.      THE FOLLOWING PETITION FOR LICENSE WAS APPROVED ON A UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE:

4.      Communication from Akbar Hussain, license holder for Pak Afghan Cuisine, 293 Newport Avenue, to the Pawtucket City Council. (Requesting name change from Pak Afghan Cuisine to Royal Fried Chicken.) was READ AND ORDERED FILED and the request to change the d/b/a name was APPROVED on a unanimous voice vote.

 

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Araujo, seconded by Councilor Wildenhain, the meeting was adjourned at 7:02 p.m.
