WHEREAS,  in 1842, a company of men formed a bucket brigade in the village of PEACE DALE, RI to help combat fire, a great threat to property and life, and

 

WHEREAS,  1867 marks the official birthday of the PEACE DALE FIRE DEPARTMENT, when after being interrupted by the Civil War, the villagers again banded together and acquired a sophisticated piece of fire protecting equipment, a 10 inch Hunneman piston pumper, and

 

WHEREAS,  in 1886 the company was granted a charter by the State of Rhode Island, and became officially known as the NARRAGANSETT STEAM FIRE ENGINE COMPANY #1 OF PEACE DALE.  It is the State’s oldest chartered volunteer fire company and was incorporated into the Union Fire District in 1889 and remains an important part of that organization, and

 

WHEREAS,  two members of PEACE DALE FIRE DEPARTMENT, Deputy Chief William E. Gray and Assistant Foreman Byron Love made the extreme sacrifice and died in the line of duty responding to alarms to protect the citizens of South Kingstown.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, WE THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RHODE ISLAND do hereby deem it an honor and pleasure to recognize the PEACE DALE FIRE DEPARTMENT on its long standing dedicated service to the community and extend sincere congratulations and best wishes for many more successful years.

Audet & Sons, Inc., 169 Bay Street, Providence, RI 02905 for the purchase and installation of an LED sports lighting system at the Village Green Tennis Courts, in accordance with all bid specifications, in an amount not to exceed $81,000, including a contingency of $2,000; and as further described in a memorandum from the Leisure Services Director to the Town Manager dated November 3, 2017 and entitled “Bid Recommendation, Village Green Tennis Lights.” Video
