COUNTY OF NEWPORT

 

The Town Council of the Town of Tiverton, County and State aforesaid held a Special Council Meeting on Saturday, the 26th day of September 2020 at 12:00 p.m. via a Virtual Meeting Viewable at Tiverton Videos on YouTube.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:

 

Council President Hilton	Councilor Driggs
Vice-President deMedeiros	Council Edwards
Councilor Clarke	Councilor Perry
Councilor Cook

                       

OPEN SESSION:

 

Council President Hilton announce purpose of Special Meeting is to determine which of the four candidates recommended by the Personnel Board the Town Council would like to interview.  All Councilors had received copies of the candidate’s resumes.  Suggested going into Executive Session to discuss job performance, character or physical or mental health of the candidates. 

 

Councilor Driggs questioned if all candidates were notified.  Town Clerk Mello responded all were notified and no candidate requested open session.

 

In open session, Councilor Edwards motioned to enter Closed Session relative to RIGL 42-46-5(a)(1) – Discussions of Job Performance, Character or Physical or Mental Health of a Person or Persons Provided that Such Person or Persons Affected May Require that the Discussion be Held in Open Session - Notice Given.  Review and Possible Vote for Selection of Individual Candidates for Town Administrator for further Interviews by Town Council. Seconded by Councilor Perry, motion passed unanimously by roll call vote.

 

Council entered Executive Session at approximately 12:05 p.m.

 

Recording on YouTube was paused for Closed Session.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

 

Council returned to Open Session at approximately 12:30 p.m.

 

OPEN SESSION

 

Councilor Edwards motioned to seal the minutes of Executive Session, seconded by Councilor deMedeiros.  Motion passed unanimously by roll call vote.

 

Solicitor announced in Executive Session Council reviewed qualifications of all four applicants.  After a discussion of performance, character, physical or mental health of a person or persons there was a unanimous vote to bring back two of the candidates for a second interview with Town Council.  Names of the candidates will be disclosed once notified.  Interviews will be in Closed Session or Open as Town Council desires.

 

Town Clerk will notify candidates and schedule Special Meeting on Wednesday at 7pm for Council interviews with the two candidates.  Interviews will be in Open Session and candidate names will be posted on agenda.

 

ADJOURNMENT:

 

Councilor Edwards motioned to adjourn, seconded by Councilor deMedeiros. The motion passed unanimously.
