COUNTY OF NEWPORT
The Town Council of the Town of Tiverton, County and State aforesaid held a Special Council Meeting on Wednesday, the 30th day of September 2020 at 7:00 p.m. via a Virtual Meeting Viewable at Tiverton Videos on YouTube.
Vice President deMedeiros called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

A. Town Council Interviews of Candidates for Town Administrator
1. Mr. Michael J. Gagne
South Dartmouth, Massachusetts
2. Mr. Christopher Cotta
Little Compton, Rhode Island
Town Council held interviews in open session with the above two candidates for Town Administrator. Both candidates were interviewed for approximately 45 minutes each. Councilors questioned their experience, past employment, and qualifications. Interviews were completed at approximately 8:25 p.m.
Councilor Edwards motioned, seconded by Councilor Perry to enter executive session pursuant to 42-45-5(a)(1) – Discussion on Job Performance, Character, or Physical or Mental Health of a Person or Persons Provided that Such Person or Persons Affected may Require the Discussion be Held in Open Session – Notice Given - Town Administrator Candidates as Noted Above. Motion passed unanimously by roll call vote.
The Council entered into Executive Session at approximately 8:30 p.m.
Council returned to open session at approximately 8:50 p.m.
Councilor Edwards motioned to seal the minutes of executive session. Seconded by Councilor Perry, motion passed unanimously by roll call vote.
Solicitor announced more than one candidate can be nominated.
Councilor Edwards motioned to nominate/appoint Christopher Cotta as Town Administrator. Seconded by Councilor Perry.
Councilor Driggs motioned to nominate/appoint Michael J. Gagne as Town Administrator, seconded by Councilor Cook.
Council Vice-President deMedeiros closed the nominations and called for vote on motion of Councilor Edwards to appoint Christopher Cotta. Motion to appoint passed by roll call vote 4 to 2. Councilor Driggs and Councilor Cook opposed.
Town Solicitor, Town Clerk and Administrator will work on contract to bring back to Council for ratification.
Councilor Edwards motioned to adjourn, seconded by Councilor Clarke. The motion passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned 9:00 p.m.
