STATE OF RHODE ISLAND, COUNTY OF NEWPORT
The Town Council of the Town of Tiverton, County and State aforesaid held a Workshop Meeting on
Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. via a Virtual Meeting viewable at Tiverton Videos on YouTube.
Council Vice President Burk called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm.
Members present: Council Vice-President Burk, Councilor Perry, Council Edwards, Councilor Janick and Councilor Vieira. Council President deMedeiros and Councilor Cook were absent.
Solicitor Marcello, Town Administrator Cotta, Town Clerk Chabot, Treasurer Saurette, Library Director Damiani, Tax Collector McGowan, Tax Assessor Robert, Fire Chief Reimels, Chief of Police Jones and DPW Director Rogers were present along with several members of our local town boards and commissions.
Council Vice President Burk welcomed Lynne Radiches, Staff Attorney from Rhode Island Ethics Commission and turned the meeting over for her to begin her presentation on Code of Ethics.
Attorney Lynne Radiches gave a presentation regarding the Ethics Commission, their powers and staff, and Code of Ethics with focus on ethical conduct, identifying conflicts of interest, business associations, definition of family member, recusal procedures, nepotism, contracts with public entities, confidential information, gifts, revolving door prohibitions, representing oneself/others, complaints, advisory opinions and financial disclosure statements.
There were a few follow-up questions regarding abstaining versus recusal, ex-spouses and former wards as family members.
Vice President Burk thanked Ms. Radiches for coming to the meeting.
Councilor Vieira motioned to adjourn, seconded by Councilor Perry. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
