STATE OF RHODE ISLAND, COUNTY OF NEWPORT
The Town Council of the Town of Tiverton, County and State aforesaid held a Special Council Meeting on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 6:00 PM at the Tiverton Town Hall, 343 Highland Road.
Council President deMedeiros called the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

Town Administrator Cotta, Clerk Chabot and Deputy Clerk Veegh were also present.
BUSINESS BROUGHT BEFORE THE COUNCIL
Councilor Vieira motioned to bring forward agenda item B. Seconded by Councilor Janick, the motion passed unanimously.
B. Community Policing Sgt. John Leduc/Tiverton Police Department – Discussion and possible
vote on special event permit for Fourth Annual Child Safety Day at Grinnell’s Beach on
Sunday, September 18, 2022, from noon to 4 pm, and to approve funding to advertise for a
public hearing on sound variance
Councilor Edwards motioned approval to advertise for a public hearing for September 12, 2022 and to waive associated fee. Seconded by Councilor Janick, the motion passed unanimously.
A. Council President deMedeiros - Discussion and possible vote regarding capital budget requests for possible funding from Annual Casino Gaming Revenue from prior fiscal year for:
1. Fire
2. Police
3. DPW
4. Town Hall
5. Tax Assessor
6. Senior Center
7. Recreation
8. School Department
Council President deMedeiros explained her preference today was for presentation and discussion only, asking for department presenters to highlight top priority items. Votes would be taken at a later meeting or workshop.
Administrator Cotta opened with a brief synopsis of the allocation authorized from FY21. He noted that despite 3.1 million being authorized, the actual amount received was 2.9 million. This was adjusted by police vehicles being paid for out of the authorized municipal capital account. He affirmed that net $3,035,000 was available today to spend. He touched on what has been spent to date, noting that school department breakdowns were forthcoming.
The various municipal department heads and school department Supt. Sanchioni, then presented their FY23 capital budget requests, highlighting priorities. Following the presentations, Council President deMedeiros suggested council members draft worksheets with their priorities to be discussed and voted on at an upcoming special meeting in October.
C. Town Clerk – Discussion and possible vote on providing Voter Information Guide regarding
the November 8, 2022 local Ballot Questions
Clerk Chabot shared examples of a previous voter information guide, distributed in 2018, that explained proposed amendments to the Town Charter. If approved, she reminded that funds would come from the Council. Council, in full support, advised the Clerk to proceed.
Councilor Burk motioned to adjourn the meeting. Councilor Edwards seconded the motion. The motion unanimously passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
