STATE OF RHODE ISLAND, COUNTY OF NEWPORT

The Town Council of the Town of Tiverton, County, and State aforesaid held a Special Council Meeting on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 9:00 AM at the Tiverton Town Hall, 343 Highland Road.

1. CALL TO ORDER

2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG

Council President deMedeiros called the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

Town Administrator Cotta, Clerk Chabot, and Deputy Clerk Veegh were also present.

 

4. GENERAL BUSINESS

A. Discussion and possible vote on the Proposed FY 24 Budget for the following departments:

a. Economic Development Commission

f. Social Security

b. Land Use

g. Unemployment Security

c. Pension Plans

h. Unfunded Liability

d. Audit of Town Accounts

i. Senior Citizens Service

e. OPEB Trust Fund

j. Fire Department

 

Economic Development Commission (EDC) Chair Renee Jones reviewed the EDC with the council and answered questions. Change made to level fund the NC Chamber & Dev Council dues at $6,215 for FY24. The new total is $7,935.

 

Director Janet Holmes reviewed the Senior Citizens Service budget with the council and answered questions. Changes made to increase bus driver salary to $12,500 and increase Programs & Classes to $16,000. The new total is $134,680.

 

Fire Chief William Bailey reviewed the Fire Department budget with the Council and answered questions. Change made to decrease Overtime to $200,000 (level funded). The new total for the overall Fire Department is $3,290,658.

 

For Pension Plans, change made to Pension Plan – Police to reduce to $550,000 (level funded). The new total is $1,296,396.

 

No changes made to Land Use, Audit of Town Accounts, OPEB Trust Fund, Unemployment Security, and Unfunded Liability.

 

Social Security is a calculated amount based on salaries. As salary changes are made in the spreadsheet, this amount will automatically update.

 

5. ADJOURNMENT

Councilor Edwards V motioned to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Councilor Janick, the motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 10:35 AM.
