STATE OF RHODE ISLAND, COUNTY OF NEWPORT
The Town Council of the Town of Tiverton, County, and State aforesaid held a Special Council Meeting on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Tiverton Town Hall, 343 Highland Road, Tiverton, Rhode Island 02878.
1. CALL TO ORDER
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG
Council President Edwards V called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

Solicitor Kirsch, Administrator Jones, Town Clerk Chabot, and Deputy Clerk Veegh were also present.
4. GENERAL BUSINESS
A. Discussion and possible vote on Charter amendments proposed by the Charter Review
Commission and Town Council
Councilors reached a consensus on several proposed charter amendments:
· Planning Boards: Reducing Board membership from 9 to 7
· Harbor Commission: Reducing Commission membership from 9 to 7 and eliminating that one seat be filled by a Planning Board member
· Town Clerk Position: Transition the position from an elected role to an appointed position
· Economic Development Commission (EDC): Reached a consensus to update obsolete language, alter its reporting structure to report directly to the Town Planner, and draft modified guidelines for their involvement in Industrial Park developments
· Arts Committee: Remove the inactive Arts Committee section and look into integrating public art initiatives under the Recreation Commission or EDC
Councilors questioned whether the Tree Commission was needed; the Solicitor will review the statute.
A Veterans Advisory Committee was proposed and discussed.
5. ADJOURNMENT
Councilor deMedeiros motioned to adjourn the meeting. Councilor Janick seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously passed. The meeting adjourned at 7:39 p.m.
