Meeting Minutes-Amended
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Lambert at 3:31 p.m.
Members Present: Chairman Ray Lambert, Vice Chair Nancy LeBlanc, Member Burt Mollohan, Alternate Members Nancy Parente and JP Millette
Member Mollohan made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 17, 2019 meeting, seconded by Vice Chair LeBlanc. The vote was unanimous.
Member Mollohan made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 17, 2019 meeting, seconded by Vice Chair Le Blanc. The vote was unanimous.
· Town Clerk Kelly spoke with the Board members about the upcoming elections in 2020. The Presidential Preference Primary will take place on April 28, 2020. Five polling locations will be open for the PPP. All ten polling locations will be used for the September 7, 2020 Primary and the November 3, 2020 Presidential Election.
· Discussion was brought up about the September primary being the day after a holiday (Labor Day). Clerk Kelly spoke about this issue coming about once every seven years and does not think that this will change although it will be addressed in the new legislative session.
· On Monday, January 6, 2020 Deputy Clerk Iannitelli and Canvassing Clerk Nardolillo visited the five polling locations to be used in the PPP. Christ the King, Cardi Furniture and Holy Ghost all seem to be fine for the upcoming PPP. They were not able to get into St. Mary’s Church due to Father Fleming having a prior engagement. Clerk Nardolillo will get in touch with him and report back to the Board at the next meeting. The new polling location at Sacred Heart Church checked off all boxes that were an issue at Msgr. DeAngelis II.
· Town Clerk Kelly told the Board that for the PPP, we will be looking into poll workers and that we will be running ads for any upcoming changes that will be taking place.
· Felix Appolonia came before the Board to address an issue with the general election if we use Sacred Heart Church. He stated that there would be an issue within Ward 1 with Senate 9 and Senate 27. Sacred Heart is outside Senate 27. Clerk Nardolillo was asked to contact the Board of Elections to see if this will be an issue.
· Playtime at the Polls will be put on the agenda for a later date. We believe that Meg will be in attendance for the Primary, not the PPP.
· Clerk Kelly stated that she will find out what verbiage needs to be put on the agenda for the public to be able to speak Board of Canvassers meetings.
· Clerk Kelly spoke with the Board in regard to adding to any upcoming agenda items. It was stated that any Board member has until the Wednesday at noon before each meeting to send agenda items to Chairman Lambert.
· Felix Appolonia came before the Board to address poll worker training. He asked if poll workers need to take more than one training class. The first training is mandatory and the other elections will be suggested. Clerk Kelly emphasized that all poll workers would be paid for training.
Member Mollohan made a motion to adjourn which was seconded by Vice Chair LeBlanc. The vote was unanimous.
The meeting adjourned at 4:14 p.m.
