Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Lambert at 3:31 p.m.
Members Present: Chairman Ray Lambert, Vice Chair Nancy LeBlanc, Alternate Members Nancy Parente and JP Millette
Members Absent: Member Burt Mollohan. Alternate Member Parente will fill in as a full member for this meeting
Vice Chair LeBlanc made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 7, 2020 meeting, as amended, seconded by Member Parente. The vote was unanimous.
Town Clerk Kelly confirmed to the BOC that, after a discussion with Housing Authority Director Steve O’Rourke, Msgr DeAngelis is not a HUD authorized location. It is privately owned and therefore does not follow RIGL 17-11-1. Board of Elections Director Robert Raposa gave approval, going forward, to use Sacred Heart Church instead of Msgr DeAngelis as a Ward 1 polling place.
A motion to approve Sacred Heart Church was made by Vice Chair LeBlanc and seconded by Member Parente. The vote was unanimous.
· Clerk Kelly informed the Board that we are working on poll workers and that letters will be sent out to both the Democratic and Republican parties with lists of potential workers.
· Discussion about the poll workers and the need for training. All workers, including greeters, will be trained in house. If the State provides moderator training, we will send our moderators. Colleen Flynn will be called to assist with training.
· Clerk Nardolillo read an email to the BOC from Father Fleming at St. Mary’s Church. St. Mary’s is open and fully operating. Father Fleming also committed the church hall for the three upcoming 2020 elections.
· Advertising of the new polling location will include postcards, robocalls, information on the Town website, posting at the Library and Senior Center and ads in the Kent County Times.
There were no comments or concerns.
Clerk Kelly explained to the Board that they are under no obligation by law to respond to any comments or concerns, and that this portion of the meeting is for the Town of West Warwick residents to be able to speak on any items they feel necessary, although the meetings are open to all. There are no votes taken during this time.
Clerk Nardolillo informed the BOC that the validating signatures will be starting at the end of January. We need to have the signatures verified by February 19, 2020. Those nomination papers need to be returned to Secretary of State.
Vice Chair LeBlanc made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Member Nancy Parente. The vote was unanimous.
The meeting adjourned at 4:06 p.m.
